10 Questions ...

... asked of Channing Sheets

Profession: Senior safety engineer. What do I actually do? Primarily, conduct infectious-disease epidemiological investigations, draft guidance documents, review proposed legislation, and investigate high-profile workplace violence.

Dog-sport involvement:  We compete in herding.  I am also a conformation breeder/owner/handler/judge.

Hometown: Evansville, Indiana (originally), San Francisco, California (currently)

Astrological sign: Virgo

1. Do you have any dog-show superstition?

Do not let dogs jump off the grooming table before they go into the ring or they will be lame.

2. TV-show guilty pleasure?

Who has time for TV?  If I had to watch something on TV, it would be a serial-killer documentary, sports or a dog show.

3. If you were president of the AKC for one day, what would you do?

I would be smart enough not to subject myself to the heartache that comes with that position. The short answer is resign.

4. Most valued possession?

Right now, AKC judging license. I paid a lot of money for these breeds!

5. What is something no one would guess about you?

Breeding dogs is my least favorite part of the sport.

6. Who would you compare yourself to?

I don’t really compare myself to anyone, but Tyler Crady Roche says I look like Dion Sanders.

7. What are you famous for?

In my professional life, conducting high-profile investigations; in my dog show life, coining the term “Grand Victory.”

8. What website do you visit most often?

It is a toss-up between the AKC events site, Infodog and Facedebacle.

9. What was more memorable, your most satisfying win or disappointing defeat?  And what was it?

The most satisfying wins for sure. We had a bitch that finished at the parent-club regional specialty a few years back the day before the national. I had another bitch that I bred go Group 1st from the classes at her very first dog show.

10. What do you wish someone would ask you?

Anything about German Shepherds: I can talk about them for hours. Dobermans are a favorite discussion topic of mine as well.
