As the AKC Canine Health Foundation tries to make some corrections in its corporate life, it held elections at its annual meeting on March 11th. By a unanimous vote MARY EDWARDS HAYES, IRIS LOVE, ANDREW GENE MILLS, NINA SCHAEFER and CINDY VOGELS were reelected to the board of directors. Voting for officers included the election of LEE ARNOLD to a two-year term as vice president, NINA SCHAEFER was elected a to a two-year term as secretary with CINDY VOGELS and CHARLIE GARVIN completing one-year terms as president and treasurer respectively. SUE SAMPSON, who is a frequent visitor to these shores, promoting the Crufts Dog Show is visiting New York with her son CHARLIE. SUE is the helpful lady that mans the CRUFTS stand at the AKC/EUKANUBA dog show, and knows all the answers for entering CRUFTS and traveling to England with your dog. The PETA commercial on www.youtube.com condemning docking and cropping (with racial overtones) is complete with an American Kennel Club banner and logo (isn’t that trademarked and not to be used without permission?). I’ve been told that if a logo or corporate name is used in parity, then it is legal. But given the agenda of PETA, I think this should have a different interpretation. Isn’t it time we went after this group and showed them some of our might. MURIEL FREEMAN, well-known Rottweiler fancier who wrote the definitive book on the breed, has passed away at the age of 91. In poor physical health for many years, mentally she was spot on. MURIEL was a multiple group judge, who judged the final at the 1989 Westminster Kennel Club dog show. She was an avid sportswoman who was a superior horsewoman and golfer, winning many awards in her amateur status. MURIEL was widowed for many years and lost one of her sons several years ago. She had developed a very close bond with DOTTIE COLLIER and they have been close friends for many years. Our deepest sympathies to her son and daughter in-law and their families. The WILCOX FAMILY will be hosting a gathering to remember their mother JANET WILCOX on Sunday, March 30th at 1 P.M. to 4 P.
