Digest of American DogsAs more and more foreign judges become familiar to American exhibitors, it might be of interest to know who is judging the 2012 CRUFTS DOG SHOW. Leading the panel is FRANK KANE, a well-known and respected breeder of American Cocker Spaniels (as they are known in the UK), who has judged on these shores. He was also the co-announcer with WAYNE CAVANAUGH on the now cancelled BBC Crufts television broadcast. The seven group judges are Gundog Group judge JOHN THIRLWELL, Hound Group judge KEITH THORNTON, Working Group judge JOHN LUSCOTT, Terrier Group judge ELLIS HULME, Toy Group judge ANNETTE OLIVER, Utility Group judge GEOFF CORNISH and the Pastoral Group judge ALBERT WIGHT. Congratulations to LOUELLA ERICKSEN, who was honored by the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB at the Twin Brooks Kennel Club dog show this past weekend, celebrating her 50th year as a judge. The American Kennel Club has released the names of the finalists for its Lifetime Achievement Awards. Member clubs will vote for one of the final three in each of the three categories, Conformation, Companion Events and Performance. The three finalists vying for the Conformation award are JEAN FOURNIER, Siberian Husky breeder and multiple group judge; WALTER GOODMAN, Skye terrier breeder and terrier group judge and board member of the American Kennel Club; and KEKE KAHN, Lhasa Apso breeder and all breed judge. In Companion Events the three finalists are JAMES HAM, trainer and exhibitor of Dalmatians, Smooth Fox Terriers and Border Terriers in Obedience and Tracking and judge of 26 years; SHIRLEY INDELICATO, a breeder, conformation and obedience exhibitor, who also judges all Obedience and Rally classes and conducts training classes; and JILL K. JONES, who obtained the first UDT title on an Norwegian Elkhound, and has been involved with Obedience and Tracking since the early 70’s and still competes in Agility and Obedience. In Performance the three finalists are JO ANN FRIER-MURZA, who worked on the AKC advisory panel on developing the earthdog program in 1993, earning master earthdog titles and field champions on her dogs; LEIDA JONES, whose interest is herding and has served on two Herding Advisory committees and teaches herding classes; and LINDA STILWELL, a Basenji breeder involved in lure coursing who has produced multiple field champions and top ten lure coursers. Too bad just one will be chosen, as they are all worthy of some recognition and we congratulate them all on their accomplishments. Happy unpacking, judge PAT GELLERMAN has moved to 2701 Regency Oaks Boulevard, Clearwater, Florida 33759. Happy 25th wedding anniversary to Portland, Oregon ONOFRIO DOG SHOW superintendents MICHELE & JOHN GOOSEN.
