The Gossip Column: November 7, 2025

For those who have experienced having their temperature taken with a rectal thermometer, know the discomfort that goes along with it. It is the  same reaction for your dog but now the AKC REUNITE will launch a new microchip that when scanned with an AKC Reunite ProScan+Temp or compatible temperature sensing microchip scanner will be able help the reader (veterinarian, technician, breeder) know the dog’s temperature, respiration and pulse without using a thermometer. The AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB hosted the FAST CAT INVITATIONAL at the Roberts Center in Wilmington, Ohio. The five latest dogs from each breed, determined by their rankings in the AKC Fast Coursing Ability Tests (Fast CAT) were invited to compete in the 6th annual invitational. There was at total of 420 dogs from 47 states that competed twice in two different divisions over the three-day event. Competing in  Pure Speed and Speed of the Breed. The winners were HC 1 Pure Speed Champion a Greyhound named FRITZ owned by DAVID NEVIUS & CHRIS KRONICK. In HC 1.5 an All American Dog JUICE owned by KATIE WEIHBRECHT. In HC Pure Speed Champion  an All American Dog BRINDI owned by EVETTE & TED DANIELAK. In Speed of the Breed Division Champion a Pomeranian named MERLIN owned by CHERIE DISQUE. I’ve watched  Fast CAT in the past and enjoyed watching the dogs run, up close and personal. It is a lot dryer than watching another activity I enjoy, dock diving, where you must stand an appropriate distance to remain dry and not look like you were caught in a rain storm…. A very special Birthday greeting to  PETER GREEN the Welshman that captured the hearts of both sides of the Atlantic in his long and unrivaled success in the sport of pure bred dogs. Just for starters the only person to have handled and judged best in show at both the WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB and the CRUFTS DOG SHOW. He is a special man and a special friend. Love you PETER.
