Grant

is the dog we waited for after the extreme show success of his father, Sherman. Grant was breeder, owner handled to his championship by Carla and Joe and daughter, Dani. He finished and stayed home to mature.

This maturity has been a process...his nature is that of most Mastiffs, calm and gentle. Unlike his father before him, Grant is the serene Mastiff who waits patiently for you to hug and pet him. In other words, he is a joy to live with...but was not eager to leave home for the shows...

The team of Holly and Grant is a story of the bonding and maturing of each of them. Although Holly had experience with working dogs before, she now had a huge challenge with Grant. While he is a breeder’s dream in Mastiff structure, his preference was to sleep and dream his day away...just ask Holly.

Showing was just way too tiring for him and this he showed by constantly “yawning” or “sitting” in the ring. In addition, he would stop eating while traveling and so it was, that Holly and Grant began their journey. It took her weeks to find just the right food that would keep him happy while on the road. Just the right amount of playing and rewards of hugs and treats while training to make showing something he slowly began to enjoy. But as the weeks passed we could see the difference in him and his showing attitude...why every now and then (when the mood strikes him he will even do a hop, a jump or a funny butt scoot, reminiscent of his father, Sherman.

The more they are together, the greater it gets...Holly and Grant have won the Mastiff National Specialty, an all breed Best in Show, several group Firsts and numerous group placements. It is our wish to thank the many judges out there who have watched and appreciated the growing of both our new handler, Ms. Holly Leftwich, and our Regal Gentle Giant...Grant.
