Question of the Week
Denise Borton
Kalamazoo, Michigan
None of the original art, historical written collections or earned awards in the conformation ring have given me more pleasure than my Amish-made tracking harness. I would not trade that harness and the indicated articles from the field for any of the all-breed BIS, group wins/placements or multiple national-specialty wins that I have had. While it may not have monetary value to my grandchildren, it is my most prized canine possession. I would hope that they would remember that.

Can I ask for two? The first is the very first ribbon, a third-place Novice at Sand & Sea Kennel Club, May 1968. And the other is the first Best in Show under Anna Catherine Nicholas at Miami Kennel Club, January 1978.

As I do not have family interested in my dog-related possessions, I have put into my will that they are to go to the various national clubs to be used as raffle items at the national specialties.
Each item has a sticker on the back for what club it is to go to.
In this manner the funds that they generate can be used in the best way possible.

We have a poster that Scott found in a London gallery. It's on canvas and was exhibited on a Colonne Morris in Paris. It's advertising, Exposition Canine, Société Centrale, du 19 au 26 Mai 1899. It has 20 different breeds on it.

I would like them to keep my favorite photo of “Matisse” (Claircreek Impression de Matisse), which was on the cover of Dog News, and the breeder trophies and the Dog of the Year trophies he won.

My gold ring, which features the shape of a dog’s head, is to be passed on to my oldest son and then on to my grandson and hopefully passed on to future generations.

They should keep whatever brings them joy. The rest they should donate or sell.
