Profession: Retired television newsman

Dog-sport involvement: Doberman Pinscher breeder and AKC judge. Started showing Dachshunds at the age of 12, which was 62 years ago

Hometown: Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Became a Californian at age 9

Astrological sign: Scorpio

 

1. Do you have any dog-show superstitions?  

I give my dogs theme songs, and when I enter the fairgrounds I play the theme of the dog I need to win with.

 

2. TV-show guilty pleasure?

“Survivor” and “The Voice.”

 

3. If you were president of AKC for one day, what would you do?  

Stop giving any attention to Labradoodles and all of the other doodles.

 

4. Most valued material possession?

My dog ring.

 

5. What is something no one would guess about you?

That I had dinner with Jimi Hendrix every time he came to Sacramento (three times). The second time he came over to my apartment with his girlfriend Carmen, and we had a great time listening to music.

 

6. Who would you compare yourself to?

My Doberman, Vito.

 

7. What are you “famous” for?

Hosting a television show, “To Be Somebody.”

 

8. What website do you visit most often?

Infodog.

 

9. What was more memorable, your most satisfying win or disappointing defeat? And what was it?

When l showed a six-month-old Rottweiler to a five-point major in an entry of 90 two days straight!

 

10. What do you wish someone would ask you?

To go to the U.S. Open tennis tournament.
