So was it apathy or the pandemic that caused the annual meeting of the American Kennel Club to come and go without much notice? Maybe it was more of the same, as the four seated directors were re-elected for another four years, so that the entire Class of 2021, RITA BIDDLE, DOMINIC CAROTA, TOM DAVIES and TOM POWERS, are now the Class of 2025. Flooding the election, the board voted to re-elect TOM DAVIES as chairman and DOMINIC CAROTA as vice chairman. ...
The increase in the amount of dog shows will once again see some of our flying exhibits in for a bit of surprise, as the airlines have changed many of their rules about what constitutes a therapy dog that flies free in the cabin. Check with your airline of choice for the changes. ...
The annual list of the top ten most popular breeds has been released, with a few changes. Still at number one is the LABRADOR RETRIEVER. Moving up to second from fourth last year is the FRENCH BULLDOG, moving down one notch from second to third is the GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG, and moving down one notch from third to fourth is the GOLDEN RETRIEVER. Five through nine stayed the same: 5. BULLDOG, 6. POODLE, 7. BEAGLE, 8. ROTTWEILER, and 9. GERMAN SHORTHAIRED POINTER. A change for 10th with the DACHSHUND moving up and the PEMBROKE WELSH CORGI moving out. ...
As you can imagine, I get a lot of press releases from the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB. No doubt sent for me to disseminate to the dog-showing public. The first holds some interest, with the AKC Legislator of the Year Award presented to Massachusetts Representative TACKEY CHAN, recognizing him for his ensuring consumer protection when buying a pet in the state. He was presented this award by GALE GOLDEN, president of the Framingham District Kennel Club. This next one I’m sure will thrill you as much as it did me, that the American Kennel Club has announced that STAINMASTER is the official flooring sponsor for AKC-televised events. ...
